The first step required before you purchase our hosted services is to determine what you need to do regarding DNS. There are two options to choose from depending on your current status.
- If you already have a domain name and you are happy with your existing hosting company then you can remain with them and simply re-point your DNS records to our servers or create additional records if required. The services that you purchase determines what you need to do. For example if you purchase our Exchange 2007 Hosted Mail services you would need to update your MX record and point it to our mail servers. An MX record determines where mail sent to your domain name gets sent to.
- If you don't already have a domain name, simply use our domain name checker to find a suitable domain name that is available and then order your DNS package before you order our other hosted services. You can choose to register any of the following domain names:
- .co.uk, .com, .net, .org, .info, .name
- .biz, .us, .mobi, and all country code domains i.e. .de, .es etc
Our DNS package provides you with the following functionality completely free of charge once you have bought your domain name:
- Web Forwarding (multiple types)
Web forwarding allows you to forward your domain name to another web address, for example you could forward your domain name to some free web space you have with your Internet service provider. For example you could have a website which is accessed with the following URL: http://www.btinternet.com/mywebsite. If you utilise web forwarding you could use your new domain name to access your existing website by using your company URL instead, for example http://www.mycompany.co.uk.
